250 Years In...

America 250th Anniversary Image

250 years ago we started writing a story together. Granted, you and I weren't there yet. Our characters wouldn't be introduced for quite awhile, but it's still our story. It's a story that was born in violence and war, in passion and love, in hopes and dreams and aspirations. It's a story of freedom.

Over the centuries this story has been full of villains and heroes. There have been wild success worthy of lavish celebrations and horrible atrocities worthy of swift punishment. We have laughed and cried and fought and rejoiced.

We don't know how far into this story we are. 250 years, but is that nearing the end or still in the first few chapters? No one knows. Here's what I do know. The characters that are filling the pages of the story at this point (you and I) have a unique privilege and responsibility of writing the next chapter.

What is going to happen in the next 250 years, or, more realistically, in the next 10-20 years of our story. Are we going to write a tragedy, a romance, a sci-fi fantasy, a dystopia, a violent war, a horror, an epic adventure? The trajectory of the story is up to us, the characters, and the authors. It's up to you.

This is your story, your plot, your characters, your themes. What world do you want to live in? Create it, together with your co-authors, your neighbors, your family, your friends, your coworkers, your fellow citizens.

This American story is 250 years old, but it's still being written.

What will we see in the next chapter?

I'm excited.

Are you?
